The game that launched ID Software. Carmack designed this game engine in an effort to port Super Mario Bros to the PC after having Nintendo refuse to consider marketing the port they ended up taking this engine to Apogee and created commander keen. the game plays like any console platform-er episode 1 has you recovering the lost parts of your spaceship stolen by the vorticons. you goal changes in each episode and i wont spoil the two paid episodes. you do pickup a ray gun on mars to take care of the tougher enemies while the most basic can be stopped by jumping on them Ala Mario
ID did receive complaint letters about the cute corpses you would leave behind after shooting a enemy so tom hall made the gun in the next 3 keen titles a stun gun. the editor used to make this game would be later used to make levels for wolfensine 3d.
