Quick Description of what this is:

It is almost a necessity for a netbook gamer RPG fan to play this game, most G950 netbooks should be able to handle this at full graphic settings and still get perfect performance. This is a guide on how to install one of the greatest RPGs of all time on your netbook.

This game was a particular little blighter for me so I think you all might appreciate a guide.  In particular was the fact it wouldn’t let me install from a networked disk drive. So I had to spend time on the long work around. Blizzard did make up for it though, as they have updated the game so it may be used without the PLAY CD.

System Requirements:

  • Windows® 2000*, 95, 98, or NT 4.0 Service Pack 5
  • Pentium® 233 or equivalent
  • 32 MB RAM
  • 650 MB available hard drive space
  • 4X CD-ROM drive
  • DirectX compatible video card

Installing Guide

There are 2 ways to install Diablo II and itsexpansion. One is much quicker than the other two, but costs much more.

Method 1

Requiredequipment:

· DiabloII discs

· ExternalUSB disk drive

· InternetConnection

How todo it:

Make sure your disk drive is onand connected to your netbook, just stick in the disk labelled “installation disk”and install the game. If you want to be able to play the game without the diskinserted read the “NO CD Solution” section in Method 2.

Method 2:

Requiredequipment:

· DiabloII disks

· Computerwith windows (or any computer with ISO creating software, and is able toconnect via LAN to your netbook)

· Oneof the following Software Options:

Ultra ISO – What I used, costs$30 so you might want to try the free option below

Magic ISO – This should work in theory asthey do mostly the same things, plus this is free!

Power ISOdoesn’t actually work for Diablo II, so if you’re thinking of using that, thinkagain.

· Someway to connect to your netbook to the other PCs hard drive

How todo it:

1. Insert Diablo II disks into the computerwith disk drive.

2. Use your ISO tools to create a backup of each disk.

3. Transfer ISO images to your laptop.

4. (note: your ISO software needs to beinstalled on both computers, however you only need Ultra ISO on the computerwith a disk drive) Use the ISO tools on your netbook to mount the INSTALATIONdisk to a virtual drive

5. Go to my computer, and then doubleclick on the Appropriate INSTALL drive.

6. Run the installer, (you must choosea full install with cinematics) and when it asks you to change disks you mustmount the next disk in the same virtual drive as the install disk wasin, then click continue.

7. Hooray, you finished installing DiabloII and possibly Diablo II: LOD. But there is always more to do. For example youneed to be able to run the game.

NO CDSolution (required for method 2):

Note: this is aperfectly legal solution because blizzard themselves created it.

Install the latest DiabloII patch (named: found Windows version 1.12a Upgrade Patch (Includesprevious fixes)) which can be found here.

After Installing the update, and depending on whether you installedDiablo II: LOD then you need to copy the following files from your disk (playdisk iso) to the install directory:

Diablo II: D2Music.mpq

Diablo II: LOD: D2Music.mpq & D2xMusic.mpq (secondfile is in the root of the Diablo II: LOD disk)

Run the exe and the game will not ask for a CD, nice ain’tit.

If you register Diablo 2 CD-key to your battle.net account, you can just download the installer instead of doing this stuff.

What about registering the keys on Battle.net and downloading Blizzards official installer?
I did that for Warcraft 3.

There is even an easier way if you have another computer with a disk drive in the same network. Just enable file sharing for your cd/dvd-drive, access it with your netbook and start the installation
